About chimney inspection in Dallas
An inspection tells you whether a chimney is safe to use and what, if anything, needs fixing. NFPA 211 recommends one every year for any chimney in use.
In Dallas, Level 2 inspections come up most often with home sales and after hail. A camera run down the flue shows cracked clay tiles, gaps and damage you can't see from the firebox.
What's included
- Level 1: firebox, damper, visible flue, crown, cap and chase cover
- Level 2: everything in Level 1 plus a video camera scan of the full flue
- Attic and roofline check where the chimney passes through
- Written report with photos, in plain English
- Repair prices listed separately, with no pressure to book

Chimney Inspection questions
Still unsure? Call (214) 000-0000 and ask a real person.
How much does a chimney inspection cost?
Inspection cost depends on the level, the number of flues and how accessible the chimney is. A camera inspection and written findings should be included in the agreed scope where needed. Ask for the inspection price separately from cleaning and any proposed repairs.
Is a fireplace inspection the same as a chimney inspection?
A chimney inspection considers the venting system as well as the fireplace and accessible connected components. A general home inspection may not include an internal video scan of the flue. Confirm the inspection level and report scope before booking.
When might a Level 3 inspection be needed?
If a suspected concealed problem cannot be evaluated through accessible areas or a Level 2 inspection, further access may be needed. A Level 3 inspection can involve opening parts of the structure. The professional should explain the concern, access required and scope before proceeding.
What's the difference between a Level 1 and Level 2 inspection?
Level 1 is a visual check of the readily accessible parts. Level 2 adds a camera scan of the full flue and is recommended for home sales, after a chimney fire or storm, or when changing the appliance.
Do I need a Level 2 to sell my house?
NFPA 211 recommends a Level 2 on transfer of property. Many buyer's agents in Dallas ask for one, and it avoids surprises late in the deal.
Can you inspect for an insurance hail claim?
Yes. We document cap, chase cover and crown damage with dated photos you can include with your roof claim.
